Cabela’s has announced nationwide expansion plans, including a new Outpost store set to open in 2014 in Lubbock.

Construction on the 42,000-square-foot store is scheduled to begin in the fall and Cabela’s anticipates a summer 2014 opening, according to a news release.

The store will employ 90 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, with most expected to come from Lubbock and the surrounding South Plains area. It will be located in the northwest quadrant of West Loop 289 and 34th Street in a proposed shopping center being developed by Graco Real Estate Development, according to the release.

Cabela’s Outpost stores typically are located in markets of less than 250,000 people. They are designed for efficiency, flexibility and convenience, offering merchandise, online order kiosks and in-store pickup. The pickup option allows customers to order Cabela’s gear ahead of time and pick it up at their convenience at the store of their choice free of charge, according to the release.

The first Cabela’s Outpost opened in the fall in Union Gap, Wash. Cabela’s opened its second Outpost in February in Saginaw, Mich.

Cabela’s operates 44 stores in North America. The company also has plans to open 16 locations during the next two years.
